1) In class, we watched the film Casablanca, which is also one of the best films ever made. We discussed about the career of Humphrey Bogart, who played the lead character in the film and we also talked about the career of Michael Curtiz. Curtiz was the director of the film as well as the director of many more beloved films. There was also discussion about the main themes of the film which were honor, lost love, self-sacrifice, and romance within a crazy world. Another thing that was really important was the main piano title that became one of the greatest piano and film songs in film history. We also discussed about some of the memorable lines being from the film. The line that is the most popular is "Here's looking at you kid".
2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casablanca(film)
The article tells about the historic context of the film. This context includes cast, plot, and reception. What was really interesting about the article was where it says that at the end of production, the final cost to make the film was over $1 million. That amount was about $75,000 over budget. What made this so huge was that back then $1 million was a lot of money back then to make a film. Unlike Citizen Kane, the film went on to have immediate success and won multiple awards. The article really covered a lot of historical background and really let the audience know how significant and historically special the film was and continues to be.
3) The article described everything that was in the movie. I think that everything in the article was reflected in the film because the quality and content in the film was amazing and that I can see why everything was so incredibly praised by critics and audiences. The article talks about the careers about a few of the actors and now I can see how great these actors are and that can help you to appreciate their work and other films that they have done in their past and other films. The article really helped me to understand the film and it also helped me to learn to understand and appreciate more old time and classic films.
4) I thought that the film was really well done and that it had a great story line. What made the story line so great was that it was a classic story about finding love again and to do what is right. Even though Rick (Bogart) feels incredibly betrayed by his former lover, he still in the end does what is right to satisfy himself and her. He wants her to be happy and I think that it is what makes the film great and makes it one of the greatest screenplays of all time. It is such a classic screenplay and is probably one of the greatest screenplays in film history. It probably also serves as a model for some or most of today's romantic screenplays.
